Weekly Update

This past week, we sent out the following horses:

Yamaka: Yamaka raced well at Cumberland, finishing a game second against a tough group of pacers. Over his last three starts, he now has two wins and one second-place finish. He seems to be in great form right now and is clearly loving life out in Maine. Yamaka is back in to go in the same class this Saturday in Race 4 and drew the 3 post with Wallace Watson back in the bike

Phantom Tom: Tom managed to grind out a fifth-place check this week. He has had a bit of a tough time getting going lately, but we continue to stay patient with his progress. He is back in on Monday at Saratoga and unfortunately drew the 7 post in Race 1. We’ll hope he can work out a trip and pick up another check.

Peter Petrify N: Pete put in a mild effort from the 6 post this week. Regular trainer/driver Irvin Crews was unavailable due to injury, so Larry “Legend” Stalbaum stepped in for the catch drive. Pete never really seemed to settle comfortably throughout the mile. However, an exciting new opportunity arose this week as Pete was relocated to the Quevedo barn. Edwin likes him and believes the 5/8-mile track at Plainridge should suit him well moving forward.

Wonka Bar: Wonka turned in his best effort of the season so far from the 5 post this week. The bettors showed him great respect as he went off the even-money favorite. The first-time Lasix definitely seemed to provide that necessary spark, as Wonka raced gamely to finish third and just missed second. He now draws the 3 post in Race 1 on Tuesday at Saratoga, where we think he has a great opportunity to milk some more purse earnings out of the Non-Winners of 1 class.

Beat Bobby Bayou:

Bobby qualified well at Tioga Downs on Saturday and picked up the win, despite it only being a three-horse field. Considering where things stood a while back after his surgery, it honestly feels like a miracle to see him back on the track and going the right way again. We tip our hat to trainer Rob Harmon for the patience and job he’s done bringing Bobby back. He is scheduled to qualify again this Saturday at Tioga Downs at 4:15 PM with Michael Merton in the bike. We’re hoping all goes well and that Bobby will be ready to race back the following Saturday.

Both our yearlings, Top Notch Treasure and Besta Blue Chip continue to make good progress and are training well. We keep our fingers crossed that they stay healthy and sound, and it should be a very fun summer.
